Laboratory // Active System

The
Laboratory.

Small experiments for reducing digital noise and rebuilding attention. Participants in the laboratory are called Operators. Run the test. Measure the output. Report the findings. This is not inspiration content — it's systems documentation.

Start here.
Before the experiments.

These are not experiments. They are diagnostic moments. No protocol. No tracking. No commitment. Run one right now. Notice what shows up.

DIAG-01 // Pre-Experiment Diagnostic

5 Minutes of Silence

Set a timer for 5 minutes. No phone. No screen. No audio. Sit with it. Notice what your mind reaches for, and when. You're not trying to relax. You're reading the baseline.

Duration: 5 min // Observation only
DIAG-02 // Pre-Experiment Diagnostic

10 Minutes, No Phone

Leave your phone in another room. Not silenced. Removed. Wait 10 minutes. Notice when the impulse to check it arrives. Notice what triggered it. That's the data.

Duration: 10 min // Observation only

The field diagnostics didn't exist when this protocol launched.

A social post. Ten minutes. Leave your phone in another room.

Operators reported back. The data changed what came next.

That's how this system works. Version 1.0 is what we started with.

What ships next is built from what you find.

Phase 03 Reinforce High Friction Days 15–21

Stress-test the system. Run 3 experiments concurrently. Identify breaking points. This is the hardest phase. EXP-12 in particular. The first 72 hours will feel like something is missing. That feeling is the data. Write it down.

EXP-09 Unlocks Day 15

Phone Distance

Phone stored in a separate room during all work blocks. Not silenced. Removed entirely. A silent phone on the desk still pulls on your attention. Remove the variable entirely.

Structural Ongoing Phase 03, Day 15
EXP-10 Unlocks Day 16

Screen Time Lock

Set hard daily screen time limits via OS parental controls. Treat yourself as the user being protected. The override prompt is the moment of awareness.

Structural Daily Phase 03, Day 16
EXP-11 Unlocks Day 17

Analog Morning

Zero screen contact for the first 60 minutes of every day. Paper, pen, silence, and the ledger only. The morning is the highest-leverage window. Protect it.

Analog 60 min daily Phase 03
EXP-12 Unlocks Day 15

Social Media Fast

All social platforms, off, for 7 days. Not reduced. Removed. This is the highest-impact experiment in the system. It works best after the earlier phases have given you something to return to.

Behavioral 7 days Phase 03, Days 15–21
Phase 04 Integrate Full Stack Days 22–30
Phase 04 // Integration Protocol

The system becomes automatic.
The Expanse deepens.

Full 12-experiment stack. The friction techniques become the default state. The Expanse deepens →

Protocol Notes

Rule 01 Run one experiment at a time. Stacking protocols before Phase 02 contaminates the data.
Rule 02 Observe for a minimum of 72 hours before drawing conclusions. Your first reaction is not your finding.
Rule 03 If a protocol is running, let it run. Stopping early means the data is incomplete — and incomplete data is harder to act on than difficult data.
Rule 04 Start with the diagnostics. Even if you think you know your baseline, run them. The number is usually different from what people expect.

Run the experiments.
Report back.

Every Tuesday a new dispatch transmits from the field. Field data from active experiments, protocol updates, and one thing to run this week. No inspiration. Just systems.

No account. No algorithm. No noise.
